Start Strong Islington

Helping local people turn ideas into impact

Start Strong Islington is a free six-week business support programme for Islington residents who want to turn an early-stage idea into a business or social venture.

Running in autumn 2026, the programme will combine practical workshops, mentoring and peer support to help you build confidence, test your idea and understand what it will take to launch. No previous business experience is required, just an idea and the motivation to create positive change.

The programme is delivered by Allia Impact in partnership with Better Space and Peabody, with support from CVC DIF.

What you’ll gain

  • Shape your idea – Get clear on the problem you want to address and the venture you want to build
  • Build your business basics – Understand business models, legal structures and how your idea can generate income
  • Reach the right people – Identify your customers and develop practical sales and marketing approaches
  • Explore funding – Learn about grants, loans, investment and other ways to fund your venture
  • Tell your story – Build a clear pitch that explains your idea and the impact it could create
  • Pitch your idea – Present your venture and compete for a £1,000 grant

• Have an idea, even if it is not fully formed
